ISLAMABAD, Feb 14: The price of 15 essential daily-use items recorded increase during the week ending on Feb 13, compared to the prices of the previous week.

Official figures released here on Tuesday by Federal Bureau of Statistic (FBS) indicated that the prices of those products increased which were commonly used by the low-income group people, particularly the salaried class.

For the households having income up to Rs3,000, the increase in the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) stood at 1.01 per cent. For the income brackets Rs3001-5000, the SPI rose by 0.94 per cent; for Rs5001-12,000, the increase in SPI was 0.90 per cent.

Likewise, for the households having income over Rs12,000, the inflation registered a growth of 0.72 per cent, compared to the previous week’s figures.

According to the FBS data, the prices of 15 items went up during the period under review. These were tomatoes, 13.10 per cent; sugar, 11.49 per cent; chicken (farm), 7.67 per cent; potatoes, 7.38 per cent; gram pulse (washed), 3.73 per cent; Moong pulse (washed), 2.88 per cent; Gur, 2.67 per cent; bananas, 1.59 per cent; tea (prepared), 1.05 per cent; cooked Daal plate, 0.85 per cent; mutton, 0.59 per cent; red chilies (powder), 0.42 per cent; firewood, 0.34 per cent; Masoor pulse (washed), 0.07 per cent.

The week under report also saw decrease in average prices of 10 essential items. These were egg (farm), 8.89 per cent; garlic, 1.44 per cent; onions, 0.63 per cent; rice basmati broken, 0.30 per cent; wheat, 0.25 per cent; rice irri-6, 0.19 per cent; vegetable ghee (loose), 0.02 per cent; tea (packet), 0.02 per cent; and LPG cylinder, 0.02 per cent.

The over all SPI rose by 0.85 per cent during the week ending Feb 13, compared to previous week’s figure.
