BAJAUR: The local residents on Sunday complained about the inordinate delay in launch of four-year BS programme in the Government Girls Degree College, Khar.
Talking to reporters here, they regretted that the college was established 15 years ago, but the promised BS programme could not be launched as yet.
ANP leader Sadiq Akbar Jan, poet Anwar Nigar, educationist Prof Khalid Habib, rights activist Asghar Khan, youth leader Attaur Rehman and others pointed out that the college didn’t have proper facilities for launching degree classes, including shortage of teachers.
They said that residents wanted their girls to get higher education near their doorsteps, but lack of facilities impeded their goal.
The residents flayed the provincial education department for not taking tangible steps for promotion of girls’ education in the district, especially after the merger of former Fata with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
They also lashed out at the former local lawmakers for not taking interest in the matter during their tenure.
They also expressed concern over the non-functional bus service in the college.
The residents demanded of the higher education department to order start of four-year BS programme in all the major subjects in the college without delay.
Meanwhile, a man was killed after unknown assailants opened fire at him in the Inayat Kallay Bazaar on Sunday, the police and local residents said.
They said Inayatur Rehman, 25, was going to his tea shop in Inayat Kallay Bazaar from Badi Samoor area when unknown assailants opened fire at him.
