A newly-wed couple in Gaza was forced to part ways at the Rafah border after the crossing was opened for foreigners, Al Jazeera reports.

According to the media outlet, the wife, who holds a Jordanian passport, was allowed to cross into Egypt, while the husband, who is Palestinian, was forced to stay in Gaza.

In a brief interview with Al Jazeera, the man said that he came to the Rafah gate to make sure his wife was able to cross safely to Egypt.

“My only crime is here that I am Palestinian,” he said.
