ISLAMABAD, Feb 12: President Gen Pervez Musharraf is reported to have expressed dissatisfaction over ‘slow-paced efforts’ by the Foreign Office in getting funds pledged by countries and agencies for rehabilitation and reconstruction of quake-ravaged areas.

According to an Economic Affairs Division report submitted to parliament, the president directed that efforts be stepped up to get the donations pledged.

The report says that 61 countries and donor agencies pledged over $6.5 billion for rehabilitation of the affected people, but the government has so far received only $25 million.

It regrets that 32 countries and agencies, including World Bank, Asian Development Bank, IMF and Islamic Development Bank, are yet to respond to the requests made in this connection.

It says that some countries and agencies, including Iran, Turkey and Finland, have provided part of what they had pledged.

Ireland, Brunei and Oman provided the entire pledged amount of $12 million, $5.9 million and $5 million, respectively. Algeria and Indonesia also provided their pledged donations of $1 million each.—Online
