Cartoons: protesters block road

LAKKI MARWAT, Feb 12: Protesters on Sunday blocked the Lakki-Mianwali Road for over an hour during a demonstration against the publication of blasphemous caricatures in some European newspapers.

The protest procession, organized by the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Fazl), started at the Saeedkhel turn and culminated into a public meeting near the general bus-stand after passing through various roads.

The demonstrators, led by JUI-F provincial naib amir Maulana Haji Amir Nawaz

Khan and Maulana Abdul Rahim, carried placards and chanted slogans against the United State and European countries.

They also staged a sit-in on the Lakki-Mianwali road.

According to Online news agency, the Traders’ Association of Swat announced to observe a strike in protest against the publication of sacrilegious cartoons in some European magazines and newspapers.
