MANSEHRA: The police on Saturday arrested a local leader of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, Siraj Khan, under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance. He was held during a raid on his house in Shinkiari.

“We arrested Mr Khan and presented him before a local court, which sent him on judicial remand,” a police official told Dawn.

The arrested leader had also remained nazim of Shinkiari union council and was arrested for his role in the May 9 riots.

Meanwhile, the police claimed to have arrested three persons, including a woman, for allegedly killing a man, and seriously injuring another earlier this month.

ASP Bilal Khan told a presser that Gul Mohammad was killed during the wedding of his friend with the assailants having managed to escape.

He said the police arrested Amjad Shakeel, Dost Mohammad and a woman and got their physical remand from a local court.

ASP Bilal said the arrested men suspected the deceased of having relations with the woman. In another incident, a lawyer, Shehbaz Qurashi, who had received burns the other day, died in a hospital.

Meanwhile, Amin Gul, 28, was electrocuted in Laborkot area here. He was removing an electric fault when he touched live wires. He was shifted to a nearby health facility where he succumbed.
