TOBA TEK SINGH: A death row convict died at the Jhang district jail on Thursday night after a brief illness.

Zeshan Haider Kharal from Shorkot was convicted of killing a college girl in Shorkot two years ago after her parents rejected his proposal for marriage.

He was sentenced to death three months ago by a district and sessions court.

Jail officials said the deceased had fallen ill and was shifted to the Jhang DHQ Hospital, where he died.

Also, a young woman was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her house in Barkatpura locality on Samundri Road, Faisalabad.

Rescue 1122 said Aqsa Bibi, 24, hanged herself from the ceiling fan.

The police shifted the body to the DHQ hospital for an autopsy, and an investigation is underway to determine whether it was a case of suicide or murder.

GOLD MEDAL: Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) athlete Haider Ali clinched the gold medal in discus throw at the Para-Asian Games held in China.

Previously, Haider Ali had also secured a gold medal for Pakistan in the Tokyo Olympics.

A spokesperson for Fesco said on Friday that Haider Ali achieved the gold medal by throwing the discus 51.53 meters. Fesco Chief Executive Officer Engr Bashir Ahmed, who also manages the Pakistan Wapda Athletics Team, commended Haider Ali’s performance and stated that his victory is an honor not only for Pakistan but also for Fesco.

FESCO: Forty villages in the Lallian tehsil have been reassigned from the Kot Momin, Sargodha Fesco subdivision, to the Lallian Fesco subdivision.

According to a Fesco press release on Friday, Malik Rab Nawaz, a member of the FESCO board of directors, recommended this change as consumers from these 40 villages had to travel 60km to resolve billing issues in Kot Momin, Sargodha district.

The board has approved his proposal, making the switch to the Lallian Fesco subdivision.

SEMINAR: A seminar on the social and legal rights of married women was held at the Government College University of Faisalabad on Friday.

Vice Chancellor Dr Nasir Amin said that human society cannot progress without ensuring the protection of the rights of married women and addressing the challenges they face. Speakers discussed the economic and social rights of married women and shed light on the legal aspects and issues related to women’s “khula” and “dowry” rights.

The speakers said that, for a better social system, it’s essential to make men aware of women’s rights, including their inheritance in property.

PARK: Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Naeem inaugurated the renovation of “Teku Park” in Toba Tek Singh on Friday.

The park, constructed three decades ago, was renovated with the support of Majlis Mufad Ama. It is dedicated to Sikh Saint Teku Singh, who served travelers by providing drinking water at the same park location a century ago.

The opening ceremony was organised by the Majlis.

TORTURE: Khanewal Deputy Commissioner Wasim Hamid Sidhu took notice of a viral video on social media showing a teacher severally beating a 4th grade student Muneeb Qayum in the classroom.

On his direction, Khanewal District Education Officer Elementary suspended the teacher, Muzammal Naveed, of Government High School, Chak 67/15L, Mianchannu, on Friday.

Child’s father has also submitted an application to police for registration of case against the teacher.
