KARACHI: The Ministry of Industries and Production (MoIP) has reportedly not renewed the manufacturing certificates of automobile assemblers who have failed to meet export targets.
Under the Auto Policy 2021-26, the manufacturers shall export 10 per cent of their import value by June 2026. To achieve this target, nearly 2pc addition in export is mandated so that total export shall be 10pc in five years till June 2026.
Such exports could be completely built-up units or the components that are made in Pakistan through assemblers’ global supply chains. However, Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) Director-General Abdul Waheed Khan told Dawn that manufacturing certificates of all auto companies which could not meet their export targets were not renewed and their import quotas were also not uploaded as well.
“Reports regarding cancellation of manufacturing licences of three assemblers [are misleading],” he said, adding that the electronic media is flashing the news regarding the suspension of the manufacturing licences of three assemblers without naming any of them,
He said this was the case of not three companies but all of those companies whose exports fell short of the prescribed quota.
Separately, amid plant shutdowns from Oct 24-31 due to parts shortage, Honda Atlas Cars Ltd (HACL) on Wednesday reduced the prices of various models by Rs100,000-300,000 due to the rupee appreciation.
The new prices of Honda City 1.2L, CVT 1.2L, CVT 1.5L, Asp MT 1.5L and Asp CVT 1.5L are Rs4.699m, Rs4.829m, Rs5.439m, Rs5.649m and Rs5.849m, respectively.
The prices of BR-V CVT S, HR-V VTI and HR-V VTI S have been cut to Rs6.299m, Rs7.649m and Rs7.899m from Rs6.529m, Rs7.899m and Rs8.199m, respectively.
Hyundai Nishat Motors (HNM) also slashed prices by Rs100,000-Rs350,000. The new prices of Elantra 1.6 and 2.0 are Rs6.399m and Rs6.930m as compared to Rs6.599m and Rs7.130m. Tucson GLS, GLS Sport and Ultimate rates have been cut to Rs7.165m, Rs8.030m and Rs8.659m from Rs7.365m, Rs8.230m and Rs10.329m, respectively.
The new rates of Sonata 2.0 and 2.5 are Rs9.979m and Rs10.930m as compared to Rs10.329m and Rs11.280m, while Porter High Deck, Flat Deck, Deck Less, High Deck with AC, Flat Deck with AC and Deck Less with AC are now available at Rs3.729m, Rs3.709m, Rs3.689m, Rs3.839m, Rs3.819m and Rs3.799m, respectively.
