Eight killed in held Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Feb 11: Eight people, including three security personnel, were killed in separate overnight clashes and militant attacks in held Kashmir, police said on Saturday.

Two suspected militants were killed when security forces went after militants hiding in a village in the southern Doda area on Saturday, police said.

Also on Saturday, militants shot dead a villager suspected of being an informer for security forces.

Two soldiers and a militant were killed in a gunbattle on Friday night in a village in a southern district, police said.

Elsewhere in southern Kashmir, rebels attacked a member of the pro-Indian People’s Democratic Party, killing his police bodyguard.

Police recovered a corpse in south-western Poonch district Friday night.

The deceased was believed to have been abducted and later hanged by militants for his ‘links with security forces’, the police said.—-AFP
