Badminton squad for India

LAHORE, Oct 11: Sixteen players comprising eight men and as many women will leave for India on Sunday to compete in the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup Asian zone badminton in Jaipur from Feb 14 to 19.

This is the first time Pakistani women are competing in this event.

Pakistan coach Tariq Farooq expressed hope that his team was quite capable of winning matches against Nepal and Iran to become second best team in their group.

He said that Pakistan No 1 Wajid Ali was in fine form and after winning the Al-Fajr Cup in Iran early this month his morale was high and hopefully he would deliver.

Teams:

Men: Wajid Ali, Zeeshan Omer, Ahsan Qamar, Rizwan Rana, Ali Yar Beg, Shabbar Hussain, Rizwan Azam and Mohammad Atiq.

Women: Ayesha Akram, Asma Butt, Uzma Butt, Farzana Ali, Farzana Shaheen, Zahida Ali, Sara Khan, Saima Manzoor.

Coach: Tariq Farooq.

Manager: Vaqas Masood.
