SWAT: Students of government schools showcased models in a science and arts exhibition in Saidu Sharif here on Monday highlighting alternative energy solutions to power shortages in the country.

They claimed that their diverse projects powered by direct current were a response to the energy crisis.

The event was organised by the Government Centennial Model Higher Secondary School, Wadudia, under the supervision of the district administration.

Student Sohail Iqbal said direct current and alternative energy sources provided a substitute to conventional electricity. He said he had designed different DC-run machines, including washing machines.

Another student, Sadiq Ahmad, said he developed a DC-powered dialysis machine at an affordable rate.

The students also exhibited models about culture and history, which, they said, played a crucial role in national development.

They brought everyday items to the event and said cultural heritage should be protected for future generations.

Deputy commissioner Dr Qasim Ali Khan, who also turned up at the event, praised teachers and students for coming up with “extraordinary” models.

He praised the school for organising co-curricular activities, which, he said, not only promoted the spirit of healthy competition but highlighted the immense talents and creativity of students as well.

Dr Khan said he was impressed by “exceptional” models displayed by students.

He said the exhibition marked the inception of a series of activities that would set the stage for the rise of future scientists, artists, and philosophers.

“Involving students in practical and hands-on experiments instead of solely relying on reading will leave a lasting impression on their minds,” he said.

The DC said the presence of experts in different fields and officials of the district administration at the event would help students highlight their dreams and encourage them to meet the country’s needs.
