Two robbers held after encounter

FAISALABAD, Feb 11: Two robbers were arrested after an encounter with police in Gulfishan Colony on Saturday. Reports said three armed men stormed into jeweller Muhammad Khalid’s house at Gulfishan Colony and bagged cash and ornaments. The area people informed the police who stopped the fleeing robbers Asif and Abdul Jabbar near the main chowk where an exchange of fire took place. As a result, one of the robbers suffered injuries after which they were arrested. Their accomplice, Anwar Ali, managed to escape.

Anwar is said to be a neighbourer of jeweller.

Wheat seminar: A two-day international wheat seminar will be held at the Ayub Agriculture Research Institute here on Feb 20 and 21.

Governor Khalid Maqbool will inaugurate the seminar while the federal agriculture minister will chair the concluding session. Various technical sessions will also be held. Dr Kausar Abdullah Malik, member biosciences Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, Prof Dr Bashir Ahmad, vice-chancellor University of Agriculture, and Minister for Agriculture Marketing Makhdoom Ahmad Alam would chair these sessions.

garment city: Federal Textile Minister Mushtaq Ali Cheema has urged early completion of Faisalabad Garment City to encourage value-added exports.

Speaking to the board of directors of the FGC here on Saturday, he said the government was making efforts to encourage value-added export and mega projects had been proposed in various parts of the country.

He said the ministry had provided funds for the project being undertaken near Khurrianwala.

Its chairman, Mukhtar Ahmad Sheikh said the company had been registered with the SECP.—Staff Correspondent
