Robbers continue to make bucks

GUJRANWALA, Feb 11: Robbers looted the house of a trader, a passer-by and took away a car in three strikes in and around the city here on Saturday.

Reports said three gangsters entered the house of trader Sheikh Suleman in Wahdat Colony by scaling the boundary wall. They held hostage the inmates and made off with jewellery worth Rs600,000, cash to the tune of Rs60,000 and other valuables. Muhammad Munir was on his way home from the market in Farooq Gunj locality when three robbers intercepted him. They deprived him of Rs51,000 and a cell phone.

In another incident, two dacoits deprived Zaki Shahzad of his car (LOV-86) when he was on way to his village Audho Rai Tetley.

Police have registered the cases and are investigating.

Minister: State Minister for Law and Human Rights Shahid Akram Bhinder has said the government is committed to ensure provision of justice to people and taking solid steps for the supremacy of law.

Speaking at an oath taking ceremony of Wazirabad Bar Association on Saturday, he urged the lawyers to cooperate with the judiciary as the bar and the bench could ensure provision of justice to the oppressed people.

The minister announced a grant of Rs50,000 for the bar.

Earlier, bar president Ijaz Cheema and other lawyers welcomed the minister and extended their cooperation in providing justice.

Later, Mr Bhinder administered oath on newly-elected office bearers.

The judges also attended the ceremony.

BODY FOUND: The body of an unidentified minor girl was recovered from a drain in Kotli Rustam, Garjakh, by police on Saturday.

Some passers-by informed the police about the body which recovered it and sent to the DHQ hospital for autopsy.

Police are investigating.

SHOT DEAD: The brother of a journalist was shot dead by his rivals in Model Town on Saturday.

Zahid, the brother of journalist Saadi Butt, was standing outside his house in Street No 21, Islamabad, when accused Khalid Mahmood, Usman, Farhan, Tariq and Latif came there. They opened fire on him following an exchange of harsh words. Zahid died on way to hospital.

It is stated that they had been involved in litigation and the accused wanted Zahid to stop pursuing the case.

Model Town police have registered a case.

SENTENCED: A court handed down death sentence with Rs300,000 fine to two convicts here on Saturday.

According to the prosecution, convicts Sabir and Salim had killed Ijaz Manzoor in Kamoki city on August 29 last.

The judge handed down death sentence with Rs100,000 fine each under Section 302 PPC while 10 years rigorous imprisonment with Rs50,000 fine each under Section 392 PPC.
