SU CAMPUS: The Sindh government has agreed in principal to set up a campus of Sindh University in Larkana.
Sindh Minister for Education and Literacy Dr Hamida Khuhro, endorsing an application of Qadir Bakhsh Bhatti advocate, has asked the education secretary for immediately processing the plan.
Mr Bhatti told Dawn here on Friday that hundreds of students would complete their education in different disciplines in the campus.
He said that boy students could have easy access to universities but girl students due to variety of reasons could hardly get admission to public universities.
He said that hundreds of girl students from the entire upper Sindh discontinue their studies due to poverty, regional and cultural constrains.
“The drop-out rate of women in Larkana and its adjoining areas continues to grow in absence of post graduation classes” he said.
The district government despite hectic efforts could not activate the Government Girls College (new building).
“At present, of 56 rooms, only four rooms are in use by students of B.Sc and B.A”, he said.
“Since the construction of this huge building with all required facilities is lying almost idle”, Mr Bhatti said.
The campus will benefit girl students from Larkana, Qambar-Shahdadkot, Shikarpur, Dadu, Kashmore and Jacobabad districts.
The Sindh governor was also approached to prepare a plan for early establishment of University of Sindh’s campus in Larkana.
It has been learnt that officials of the Sindh education department and University of Sindh are busy preparing a plan to set up the university’s campus in Larkana and Mirpurkhas.
