LAKKI MARWAT: Four militants were killed and one was apprehended in an intelligence-based operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat district on Friday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

It said the security forces conducted the operation in the Semu Wanda area on the reported presence of militants.

During the operation, an intense exchange of fire took place between the troops and the militants, in which four militants were killed, whereas one got injured and apprehended by the security forces.

“A cache of arms, equipment and explosives was also recovered during the operation,” the ISPR said.

Lakki Marwat’s district police officer (DPO), Tariq Habib, said the militants’ bodies were recovered from the mountains, used as safe havens by the militants.

“Before the operation was launched, annou-ncements were made in the area to caution villagers against visiting the mountains,” Mr Habib said, adding that the militants had set up their sanctuaries in the mountains near the village.

He said the militants attacked the soldiers using light and heavy weapons from their hideouts, leading to a fierce gun battle.
