Governor promises to increase seats in Saidu Medical College

SWAT: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Haji Ghulam Ali has announced to increase the number of seats at Saidu Medical College (SMC) from 100 to 150 in the next session.

He also stressed the need for instilling tolerance in young generation, urging them to look to their ancestors for inspiration in fostering a more compassionate and accommodating mindset, ultimately contributing to the progress of nation.

The governor was addressing as chief guest the fourth convocation of Saidu Medical College. He awarded degrees to 172 graduates of the college belonging to 2018 and 2022 sessions.

The convocation was attended by Khyber Medical University Vice-chancellor Prof Ziaul Haque, Information Secretary Abdul Jabaar Shah, Higher Education Secretary Arshad Khan, Swat Deputy Commissioner Dr Qasim Ali Khan and District Police Officer Shafiullah Khan Gandapur. The faculty members of Saidu Medical College as well as parents and fellow students of the graduates were also present on the occasion.

Prof Asrarul Haq, the principal of the college, presented annual performance report of the institute.

The governor urged graduates and students to make research their mission and contribute to advancements in their respective fields. He also announced to increase the number of available seats at the college from 100 to 150 in the next session.

“I am delighted that I am part of this convocation in the beautiful Swat valley. Witnessing the graduation of new medical professionals in the picturesque valley of Swat is an honour for me,” he said.

He advised youth to support their families and serve humanity in a meaningful way. “Let us seek inspiration from the wisdom of our ancestors, nurturing a profound sense of tolerance and compassion, and in doing so, we will pave the way for a brighter and more harmonious future,” he added.

The governor commended the parents for their unwavering commitment to providing their children with education, even in challenging circumstances.

He also pledged practical steps for solarisation of the college. He said that he take up financial concerns of universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the prime minister. He showed confidence that the country and province would soon overcome the financial challenges.

The convocation ceremony concluded with presenting gold medals to students, who demonstrated exceptional performance during their academic sessions. Prof Asrarul Haq presented shields to governor and Prof Ziaul Haq.
