LAHORE: A Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) inspection team on Sunday allegedly found nephew of a caretaker of a shrine involved in power theft from transmission line through hooks in Jumber area of Phool Nagar.

As per Lesco spokesman, one Husnain Shah Gardezi, nephew of Pir Hassan Shah Gardezi, the caretaker of a shrine, was caught stealing electricity directly from transmission line through hooks.

A few days back, a Lesco team had also got Pir Hassan Shah Gardezi, arrested for power theft, he adds.

The spokesman said that during an operation in Jambar Sub-Division of Phool Nagar, Lesco officials detected electricity theft by Husnain Shah, who was using three air-conditioners at his house and an adjoining seminary.

Upon seeing the Lesco inspection team, Hasnaian fled the spot. However, the official removed and seized the transformer and wires being used for electricity theft.

The Lesco officials also submitted an application with the local police station for registration of a first information report (FIR) against Husnain.

The officials also imposed Rs600,000 fine as detection bill on the suspect.

Meanwhile, Lesco recovery teams recovered Rs26 million from 693 defaulters on the 18th day of the recovery campaign.
