KARACHI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir affirmed on Thursday that action against a ‘spectrum of unlawful activities’ would persist with ‘full force’ in order to combat ‘substantial economic losses’, Dawn.com reported.

His remarks came during a meeting of the Provincial Apex Committee of Punjab, which was also attended by caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

During the meeting, the COAS — who was received by the Lahore corps commander — was briefed on the comprehensive security scenario, which encompassed actions against electricity and gas theft, hoarding, and foreign currency smuggling, as detailed in a statement issued by ISPR, Dawn.com reported.

“Law enforcement actions against a spectrum of illegal activities will continue with full force in collaboration with the LEAs and the concerned government departments to rid Pakistan of the substantial economic losses it continues to suffer due to pilferage done by different methods,” the military’s media wing quoted Gen Munir as saying.

ISPR disclosed that the gathering was informed about the safeguarding measures for minority communities, the advancement of operations in riverine regions, and the status of repatriation efforts concerning illegal foreign nationals.
