BAHWALNAGAR: A 15-year-old mentally challenged girl gave birth to a baby girl on Wednesday.

Both the rape survivor and the child are reported to be in a critical condition.

The Chishtian A Division police registered a case against an unidentified person on Tuesday for raping the girl about seven to eight months ago.

The FIR stated the girl had been complaining of severe stomach aches for the past 10 to 12 days. Her parents became aware of her pregnancy when they took her to a private hospital for treatment.

They suspect she was assaulted eight months ago while she was on her way to Chak 13, Gajyani, to meet her mother.

Quoting the rape survivor, the FIR reads that a motorcyclist sexually assaulted her.

On Wednesday evening, the survivor’s father told Dawn they were not sure about the exact details, adding it seemed that some people had been abusing the girl continuously.

He said due to mental weakness and severe pain, the girl was unable to communicate. He said the survivor had given birth to a baby girl at THQ Hospital, Chishtian, and both the mother and the girl were in a critical condition.

The police said the parents found out about the incident a few days ago and approached the police on Tuesday night.

A special police team will investigate the matter.
