KARACHI, Feb 6: The Central Police Office, Sindh, has released details of Muharram processions and traffic arrangements in the city on Muharram 8, 9 and 10 (Feb 7, 8 and 9):

Tuesday (Feb 7): The main Shia procession will be taken out at 11am from Nishter Park and culminate at Hussainian Iranian Imambargah via Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Road, Father Jaminis Road, Mehfil Shah-i-Khurasan, M. A. Jinnah Road, Mainfield Street, Preedy Street, Thattai Compound, Adamjee Budha Bhoy Road, Baba-i-Urdu Road, Nishter Road, Altaf Hussain Road, Boulton Market, Bombay Bazar and Nawab Mahabat Khanji Road.

Wedesday (Feb 8): The Shia Alam procession will be taken out from Markazi Imambargah Liaquatabad at 9am and the participants will make a stopover at Martin Road Imambargah. The procession will re-emerge from the imambargah to reach Nishter Park where a majlis will be held. At about 12 noon, the procession will be taken out from Nishter Park to reach Hussainian Iranian Imambargah via Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Road, Father Jaminis Road, Mehfil Shah-i-Khurasan, M. A. Jinnah Road, Mansfield Street, Preedy Street, Thattai Compound, Adamjee Budha Bhoy Road, Baba-i-Urdu Road, Nishter Road, Altaf Hussain Road, Boulton Market, Bombay Bazaar and Nawab Mahabat Khanji Road.

Thursday (Feb 9): The Shia Majlis will start at 7:30am at Nishter Park and end at 9am following which a procession will be taken out. The route of this procession will be the same as adopted by the previous day’s procession.

As soon as participants of the procession will emerge from Nishter Park, all vehicular traffic coming from the city side will be diverted towards Soldier Bazaar Road from the junction of M.A. Jinnah and Dr Dawood Pota Road.

All traffic on Soldier Bazaar Road from its junction with Dr Dawood Pota Road up to its junction with Khan Bahadur Naqi Mohammad Khan Road will flow one way.

All buses, minibuses, trucks etc. coming from Nazimabad side will be diverted to Nishter Road towards Zoological Garden, and those coming from Liaquatabad side will be diverted to Martin Road towards Central Prison. The traffic will, however, be permitted to proceed up to the jail and adopt the route of Jamshed Road, Dada Bhoy Noroji Road, Kashmir Road, Sharea Faisal up to Gora Qabristan; and then Mubarak Shaheed Road, Iqbal Shaheed Road, Lucky Star, Sarwar Shaheed Road, Dr Dawood Pota Road and Preedy Street to take their normal route.

When the head of the procession reaches at the junction of M. A. Jinnah Road/Mansfield Street, the traffic will proceed straight towards the 602-EME Workshop, Mubarak Shaheed Road, Iqbal Shaheed Road, Lucky Star, Sarwar Shaheed Road, Fatima Jinnah Road, Maulana Wafai Road, Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road, M. A. Jinnah Road till the situation permits them to emerge on I. I. Chundrigar Road from the junction of the Court Road/M. R. Kiyani Road.

Similarly, all buses/minibuses approaching the city from Stadium Road side will proceed to their destination via New M.A. Jinnah Road. These vehicles will be diverted at Dada Bhoy Noroji Road towards Kashmir Road from its junction with New M. A. Jinnah Road/Link Road behind Mazar Quaid.

All trucks, buses, minibuses approaching from Super Highway side will be diverted from Al-Azam Square towards Chowrangi No-2 Nazimabad and will proceed along the Estate Avenue Road, Shershah to Mauripur Road. For return journey, these vehicles will adopt the same route.

All buses, minibuses and trucks approaching from the National Highway side will proceed via Rashid Minhas Road, Stadium Road, Sir Shah Mohammad Suleman Road, Hassan Square, Liaquatabad No-10, Nazimabad Chowrangi No-2, Habib Bank, Manghopir Road, Estate Avenue Road, Shershah and Mauripur Road. For return journey, these vehicles will adopt the same route.

No cars will be permitted to proceed towards the route of the procession from Guru Mandir roundabout, and will be diverted to Baharduryar Jang Road and again on Khan Bahardur Naqi Mohammad Khan Road. Under no circumstances, these vehicles will be permitted to proceed along Soldier Bazaar Road from the junction of Khan Bahadur Naqi Mohammad Khan Road/Bahaduryar Jang Road.

All cars coming from Mazar-i-Quaid side along M. A. Jinnah Road will be diverted towards Bahaduryar Jang Road. No vehicular traffic will be permitted to proceed towards the Purani Numaish roundabout under any circumstances.

No vehicles approaching Purani Numaish roundabout via Shahrah-i- Quaideen (except those carrying participants of the procession and the special stickers, issued by police having been displayed on windscreens) will be allowed to proceed on from the roundabout of Shahra-i-Quaideen/Link Road behind the Mazar. No bus, minibus, truck will be permitted to proceed beyond this roundabout towards Purani Numaish.

No vehicles will be permitted to proceed on towards Saddar and other adjacent colonies and towards Empress Market from the junction of Preedy Street/Sarmad Road; Preedy Street/M.A. Jinnah Road; Shahrah-i-Liaquat/Court Road; and Shahra-i-Liaquat/Mohammad Bin Qasim Road when the head of the procession reaches near the crossing of M.A. Jinnah Road/Mansfield Street.

Similarly, no vehicles proceeding towards Saddar via M. A. Jinnah Road side will be permitted to proceed from its junction with Preedy Street and Aga Khan Road.

All traffic coming from Keamari side will be terminated at Ghas Bunder Railway Quarters and as soon as the head of a Sunni procession reaches the junction of M.A. Jinnah Road, the traffic will flow between Keamari to Railway Quarters, Ghas Bunder and M. A. Jinnah Road.

All buses coming from West Wharf side and Mauripur Road side will terminate at the junction of Aga Khan Road/Eduljee Dinshaw Road. The traffic from West Wharf and Mauripur Road side will, however, be permitted to proceed on via Aga Khan Road/G. Allana Road till the situation so permits.

All traffic coming from Keamari and Mauripur Road from the M.T. Khan Road side will flow via Jinnah Bridge till the time the head of the procession reaches the junction of M.A. Jinnah Road/Donnelly Road and thereafter, all the traffic will be suspend from the junction of M.T. Khan Road/Jinnah Bridge.

On Wednesday-Thursday night, Tazia processions will be carried out throughout the city. The following traffic arrangement have been made for the same: All buses approaching Saddar from Jamshed Road side will proceed straight on M. A. Jinnah Road and no bus will be permitted to emerge on Mansfield Street after 10pm. Buses coming from city side on Shahrah-i-Liaquat to reach various colonies via Empress Market will be diverted towards Mohammad Bin Qasim Road/M. A. Jinnah Road. The buses bound for Malir and Sharea Faisal will be diverted towards Court Road, Maulana Wafai Road, A.H. Road, M.W. Road.—PPI
