KOHAT: The city police on Friday arrested a six-member gang of women thieves, who had stolen gold earrings from a jewellery shop in the main bazaar here.

SHO city police station Vaqar Khan said the police also recovered the stolen earrings from them.

He quoted the jeweller as saying that the women came to his outlet and asked for the display box. However, he said when he checked the box seven pairs of earrings were missing.

The SHO said FIRs had been registered against the women.

Separately, the police arrested a man for stealing jewellery and prize bonds worth over Rs1 million from a house during a raid on his house here on Friday. The police also recovered the stolen articles from him.

A woman, Kalsoom belonging to Chkar Kot area, had reported to the cantonment police that prize bonds worth Rs900,000 and two tolas of jewellery were missing from her house.

SHO Islamuddin said the accused, Uzefa, was a relative of the woman.

He said a case had been registered against him.

CRACKDOWN: Kohat division commissioner Mohammad Ali Shah on Friday informed the media about the actions undertaken over the last four days against sugar hoarders, illegal money exchanges and electricity theft.

He had invited journalists to the Commissioner’s House here to share information about the progress made in the crackdowns launched in Kohat, Hangu and Karak districts.

Mr Shah said 53 metric tonnes and six metric tones, respectively, of sugar were confiscated from Karak and Kohat warehouses.

Similarly, he said the joint teams of the administration, police’s special branch, and Frontier Constabulary seized Rs6 million from illegal money exchanges in Kohat and Karak.

The commissioner said in Kohat, 14 FIRs were registered against electricity thieves as 167 illegal connections were dismantled and Rs5.7 million arrears recovered. In Karak, 28 FIRs were registered and a recovery of Rs100,000 was made.

In Hangu, he said 25 FIRs were filed and Rs1.7 million was recovered from defaulters. He said a total of 468 illegal connections were removed in Kohat, Karak and Hangu and six power thieves arrested.
