Polo: Bankers annex trophy

LAHORE, Feb 5: Four-goal Hissam Ali Hyder guided Bank Alfalah to capture the Sahar Polo Cup, defeating Guard Filters 6-4 in the final on Sunday. Hissam fired back-to-back field goals as the bankers led the first chukker 2-0.

But the losers bounced back gaining 3-2 lead in the second chukker.

Dhruvpal Godara, who scored twice, struck first converting a 60-yard penalty hit while Raja Samiullah pumped in back-to-back goals.

Godara cashed in on another 60-yard penalty in the third chukker to increase the lead to 4-2.

But Hissam restored parity (4-4) scoring two field goals in a row, before the chukker closed.

In the fourth chukker Jota Chavanne excelled converting back- to-back 30-yard penalties to seal the fate of the final.

Four goals each by Asif Tiwana and Vishal Singh helped Hico Icecream earn third place thrashing Colony Textile 12-6.

Ahmad Ali Tiwana and Tanvir Tariq struck two goals each to complete the scoring.

For the losers, who had two goal handicap, Umar Sadik and Naveed Sheikh added two goals each.
