Seven killed in accident

OKARA, Feb 5: Seven people were killed while a dozen others sustained injuries, four of them serious, in an accident on Deepalpur-Pakpattan Road late on Saturday night.

Reports said that a coaster (LOK-9548), going to Deepalpur from Pakpattan, was overtaking a bus when it collided head-on with a sugar cane-loaded tractor-trolley. As a result, Sharafat Bibi, Muhammad Zaman, Miskeen, Rehmat Ali, Abdul Rashid, Maqsood and an unidentified man died instantly while some dozen others suffered injuries. Four of them — Ghulam Rasool, Riaz, Naveed Khan and Fakhar Zaman were shifted to a Lahore hospital in critical condition while the rest were admitted to a hospital in Amli Mootu Town.

Deepalpur Sadar police have registered a case against the driver on the report of passenger Zahoor Ahmad, whose sister lost her life in the accident. —Correspondent
