Another child drowns in Karachi manhole

KARACHI: A four-year-old girl died after falling in an uncovered manhole in Mowach Goth on Thursday, police and rescuers said.

Moachko SHO Shahid Chaudhry said that Umra Baloch was playing outside her home in Ghazi Khan Wara when she fell in an uncovered gutter and drowned.

He said that Edhi divers launched a rescue search and recovered the body.

The police said that the family did not want any legal proceedings.

Earlier on Aug 14, a three-year-old boy fell in an open manhole in Memon Goth and drowned. Recently, the chief executive officer of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation had put the number of uncovered manholes in the city at 20,000.
