KARACHI, Feb 4: Interim arrangements have been made to impart education to more than 2,500 students of the Azad Kashmir University that was damaged in the wake of the Oct 8 earthquake.

This was stated by the chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Prof Dr Attaur Rahman.

The HEC chairman stated that no fee would be charged from the students in question.

Various varsities would be providing their premises and facilities to these students.

Dr Atta announced that the classes for these students would commence from March in the afternoon in various campuses of the varsities in Islamabad.

He said that the office of the vice-chancellor of the Azad Kashmir University had been established at the HEC.

Dr Atta said that new campuses would be developed for the Azad Kashmir University and Hazara University near Abbotabad. Hostel facilities have been provided in Islamabad for male and female students of the Azad Kashmir University, he added.

The HEC chief said that the AJK government should identify the sites where the campus could be built for the Azad Kashmir University.

He stated that it should be decided by them whether the campus should be constructed at the same place or somewhere else.

Dr Atta said that after completion of the PC-1 for the project, the process of construction would start.

For the construction of the Hazara University campus, the requirements have already been examined by the HEC, he added.—APP
