ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: In view of the imminent impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the job market, Pakistanis schools and colleges need to remodel their curriculum. During a recent interview, former American president Barack Obama highlighted the fact that AI’s ability to learn and adapt will decrease the need for humans in a variety of tasks. This suggests that only those with specialised AI-related skills and expertise are poised to excel. Skills, such as creativity, emotional intelligence, critical thinking and adaptability, which are purely human abilities, will be considered highly valuable. Therefore, students must be equipped with these skills, and encouraged to pursue relevant academic progra- mmes. Besides, there should also be courses related to AI in degree programmes.

SAVING WATER: Pakistan needs the land reforms of Ayub Khan and the administrative skills of Feroz Shah Tughlaq to address the country’s water shortage by building canals and dams. After Tarbela, Warsak and Mangla dams, no water reservoir of significance has been built. The monsoons have been causing flash floods in the last few years. This water needs to be used rather than allowed to unleash destruction. Hub and Meerani dams are not enough to address the needs of Balochistan. The government needs to build dams and reservoirs on Porali, Moola, Bolan and Hingol rivers as well.

RECREATIONAL AVENUES: During summer holidays, people with enough means tend to visit various places that take them away from their dull and dreary routine lives. There are others who make do by visiting recreational spots within their respective cities to have a few moments of relief. The people of Hyderabad are unfortunate in the sense that there is a serious dearth of entertainment and recreational avenues in the city. The government should set up new such spots in Hyderabad so that people at large may have some fun within their budget.
