DADU, Feb 3: Renowned archaeologist Syed Hakim Ali Shah has said that the Sindh government is not paying attention to rehabilitation of the Manchhar lake as poisonous and salty water of the MNV drain has destroyed it. He was speaking at a seminar “How historical places should be protected”.

The seminar was organized by the Gorakh Development Welfare Association in the district council hall here on Friday. Hakim Ali Shah said developed countries were protecting their historical places but the Pakistan government was neglecting historical places.

Bakht Jamal said the federal government had launched the RBOD project to drain out brackish water into sea but work was not completed after a lapse of three years. He said the MNV drain water was destroying Manchhar, hence water of the MNV should be stopped to save the lake.

Manchhar Lake Rural Development director Mohammad Ali Bughio said that tourists had stopped visiting the lake as it was destroyed due to brackish water of Punjab, Balochistan and the upper Sindh. Gorakh Development Welfare Association president Fida Hussain Pirzado said that an international conference would be organized on the Manchhar lake on February 16.
