HYDERABAD, Feb 3: In order to ensure installation of three modern and efficient filter plants to supply safe and filtered drinking water in Hyderabad, a series of presentations by foreign experts, manufacturers of treatment plants is being given to the district administration.

Uzi Sezer of the Turkish Company, ENTA, gave a presentation on water treatment system at the district nazim’s secretariat here on Thursday evening.

It may be recalled that an expert of Hydrex Asia Limited of Hong Kong was invited for presentation on Jan 6, 2006, at same venue.

The main purpose of the presentations was to assess different technologies of the world for efficient water treatment/filter plants being used for providing safe drinking water to the people and to make the government investment as fruitful.

Mr Sezer said that the company was dealing with the subject since long time.

He said that water would be treated by adding alum, lime and polymer and that filtration would be done through advanced pressure filters.

Moreover, sludge will be first thickened and dried to reduce its quantity up to one tenth before disposal.

He said the filter plant proposed by the company was more effective and provided safe drinking water.

Responding to a question, he said the plant of the company had turbidity removing strength up to 2000 PPM but it would be better to settle the water at least for four days at lagoons before proceeding with its treatment.

MPAs Naeem Ishtiaque and Aslam Pervaiz, DCO Mohammad Hussain Syed, HDA DG Tahir Ahmed, WASA additional MD Faheem Junejo and Engineer Majeed Surahio of the public health engineering department asked different technical questions mostly about removal of turbidity and sludge, chlorination, control over biological contamination, O&M cost and Hydraulic design of the proposed filter plant.

The visiting expert gave answers to satisfy questioners.

Addressing the forum of experts, the district nazim said that the district government had decided to install three modern filter plants one each at Hala Nako, Pareetabad and Ganjo Takar to provide safe and filter water to the people.

He said under the requirement, the proposed filter plants should be efficient, and durable with low operational and maintenance cost.
