NAWABSHAH: The Prime Minister, Mr. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto said today [Aug 23] that the Federal and Provincial Governments, the Armed Forces and People’s Party workers are fighting an untiring battle with the floods … to save the people from its devastating effects. He declared that he would not go back to Rawalpindi until the danger of flood completely diminishes.

The Prime Minister observed everywhere he went to visit the flood affected areas in Sind he found colossal loss — both the loss of precious lives and valuable properties. … “We have also sustained great national loss of crops of rice, cotton and other seasonal crops and the dwelling of poor villagers have completely washed away,” he added. Talking to newsmen after his arrival at Moro in a helicopter from Larkana … he said his Government would not spare any effort in providing every possible aid to the flood victims. — Correspondent

[Meanwhile,] Rupees five crore have been donated by the business community of Karachi towards the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund during the past six days, Mr M. Akram, Vice-President of the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, informed.
