KARACHI: A former MPA belonging to the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf was arrested on Monday, police and party officials said. The former MPA, Raja Azhar, was arrested from Saddar.

A senior police officer, who wished not to be named, said he had been arrested as he was nominated in a terrorism and rioting case.

Tipu Sultan SHO Imtiaz Husain Shah confirmed that the former PTI lawmaker had been apprehended by the police in a case registered against several party leaders and workers at his police station pertaining to violence on main Sharea Faisal soon after arrest of former premier and PTI chairman Imran Khan on May 9, 2023.

Meanwhile, PTI Karachi president Khurram Sher Zaman said in a statement that Azhar’s arrest was a continuation of the party’s victimisation.
