SAHIWAL: A gunman was killed by the Qaboola Police in Pakpattan in an encounter near Khadar Canal late on Sunday.

The police claimed that two accomplices of the deceased fled.

The Qaboola police said three gunmen riding a motorcycle looted a motorcycle, Rs50,000 in cash and two mobile phones from local resident Ahmed and fled, taking cover of firing near village 89/EB.

When the police were alerted, the Qaboola police team spotted the gunmen near Khader Canal. They started firing at the police party. The police retaliated, and after 30 minutes of exchange of gunfire, the police found a body at the scene.

The deceased was wearing a bullet-proof jacket and had a Kalashnikov and dozens of magazine rounds on him. The police are searching the criminal records for identification.

Police also recovered the snatched motorcycle and cash.

HELD: An invigilator uncovered an impersonation case during the examination for the prison warden held on the premises of a private college on Pakpattan Road.

Centre Superintendent Sarfraz Ahmed told reporters that the examination is ongoing in Block 15, Command College. During invigilation, he caught Abdul Ghafoor, who was taking the exams in place of Muhammad Imran.

The superintendent checked and compared the roll number slip with his counter file, which did not match. The suspect was handed over to the police.

INMATE DIES: An inmate of the Central Prison of Sahiwal died at Sahiwal Teaching Hospital on Monday.

Prison sources said Tariq Mahmood, from village 81/5-R, Pakpattan, was convicted in a case registered with the Fateh Sher police. A few days back, due to sickness, he was shifted to the hospital where he died.
