KARACHI, Feb 2: A petroleum firm will establish a chair at the NED University of Engineering and Technology for its Department of Petroleum Engineering, whose salary would be arranged through a grant promised by the firm, said sources on the campus.

It was learnt that an additional post of professor would be created under a chair at the department, which was established about two years back for undergraduate and postgraduate studies. At present about 50 students pertaining to two batches are enrolled for the programme leading to engineering degrees.

A senior official said that the specially created post of professor would be advertised soon so that competent persons from market could be engaged on competitive rates. The teacher to be appointed is likely to get an amount to the tune of Rs2, 25,000 per month, added the official.

An agreement towards establishment of a chair at the petroleum engineering department was signed between the NED varsity and the Pakistan Petroleum Limited Welfare Trust on Feb 1.

Under the agreement signed at a ceremony, the PPL Welfare Trust will provide annual grant to the NED’s department initially for a period of five years, said a press release.

According to PPL Managing Director Syed Munsif Raza, the company plans to establish a similar chair in another varsity for which talks were in progress.
