LARKANA: The Larkana Municipal Corporation awarded certificates and shields to municipal workers in recognition of their services rendered during monsoon rains at a special ceremony held at Begum Nusrat Bhutto Library on Wednesday.

Larkana Mayor Anwar Ali Nawaz Luhar, Jamil Soomro, political secretary to Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and elected chairmen of different union committees distributed the awards as well as pension and gratuity cheques for over Rs40 million to retired employees.

They said that since taking over control of the institution after elections, they had prioritised solving municipal workers’ issues. The objective behind giving workers appreciation shields and certificates was to encourage them to own their institutions and serve their constituencies selflessly, they said.

They said that thanks to sincere and dedicated efforts of municipal workers rainwater did not remain on the streets for long during heavy rains. The workers stood shoulder to shoulder with elected representatives and officers during the rainy season, they said, adding it was their duty to encourage them and recognise their services.

They said that the PPP was a pro-people party whose manifesto was focused on serving the downtrodden, peasants and providing jobs. The officers and workers would be provided relief so that they could perform with peace of mind, they said.
