NAWABSHAH: Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho inaugurated the Benazir Institute of Urology and Transplan-tation (BIUT) here on Friday.

The 300-bed hospital is meant for kidney patients needing best possible treatment as is being offered at the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplant in Karachi and Sukkur, according to Senior SIUT Professor Dr Anwar Naqvi and SIUT-BIUT coordinator Mohammad Ameen, who added that the treatment facilities included latest robotic operating theatre and dialysis.

Speaking at the ceremony, Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho said it was the top priority of the Sindh government to ensure provision of state-of-the-art health facilities to the people of this province and the BIUT was the first link of the series.

She said the BIUT was a gift from the Sindh government to the patients of kidney and related diseases living in Shaheed Benazirabad district and its adjoining areas who earlier had to travel to Karachi and other cities for such treatment.

Dr Pechuho said that the BIUT was handed over to the SIUT Karachi where Dr Adeeb Rizvi had long been providing the best treatment to kidney patients.

Peoples Medical University for Women, Shaheed Benazirabad, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Gulshan Ali Memon, Commissioner Mohammad Abbas Baloch and Prof Mohammad Ali Suhail also spoke at the ceremony.

Those who attended the event included MNA Ghulam Mustafa Shah, MPA Ghulam Qadir Chandio, DIG Mohammad Younus Chandio, DC Shehryar Gul Memon, SSP Mehzoor Ali Ghouri, District Council Chairman Ali Akbar Jamali, Mayor Qazi Mohammad Rasheed Bhatti and District Health Officer Dr Asadullah Dahri, as well as senior officials of various departments, doctors and SIUT staff.

The minister, along with Sindh Integrated Emer-gency and Health Services CEO retired Brigadier Tariq Qadir Lakhiar, also inaugurated ‘Rescue 1122’ ambulance service at a ceremony held in the H.M. Khoja Auditorium.

Speaking to the audience, she said that Rescue 1122 had been playing an important role in saving precious human lives by rushing injured people, in the event of accidents or some other emergencies, to health facilities.

The minister said that the ambulance service was currently available in several districts of the province and efforts were being made to extend its operation to other small and big towns.

She said Pakistan Peoples Party was striving to provide best possible health facilities to patients and ensure protection to the life and property of every citizen in the province.

Brig Tariq Lakhiar told the audience that highly-trained staff had been inducted in the Rescue 1122 service. Latest medical machineries of all types were available with it to cope with any emergency, he added.

The Rescue 1122 staff demonstrated their skills in providing emergency medical assistance and quickly shifting patients to a hospital.
