GUJRAT: Gujrat police have registered a case against the Pakistan Tehreek Insaaf (PTI) leader and former federal minister Chaudhry Moonis Elahi and eight others on the charges of ordering firing and attempt on life of a local political figure, Afgan Farooq of Kula Chor.

As per police sources, the case had been lodged at Jalalpur Jattan Saddar police station on Thursday last, but police sealed the FIR.

Reacting to registration of the case in a tweet, Moonis Elahi, who has been living abroad for some seven months, termed it false and fabricated.

The sources say the complainant, Mr Farooq, alleged in the FIR that at the behest of Moonis Elahi, at least eight unidentified armed men opened fire on him, which was retaliated by his security guards, forcing the attackers to flee.

He said he had filed his nomination papers as a candidate from Punjab Assembly constituency PP-32 (Jalalpur Jattan) against Moonis Elahi for the election which was to be held in May the last. Since filing of the nomination papers he had been receiving life threats, Farooq added.

Former PTI minister terms case fabricated

The sources said the case had been lodged under sections 324, 109 and several other sections of Pakistan Penal Code.

Moonis has been declared a proclaimed offender in a money laundering case registered against him by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The law enforcement agencies (LEAs) had conducted several raids on Moonis’ Kunjah House residence near Gujrat in February the last.

He and his father, former Punjab chief minister, also face cases lodged with the Anti Corruption Establishment, Punjab.

Mr Farooq had been an aide of Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain, but later turned against him and his son former MNA Hussain Elahi around four months ago.
