SIALKOT, Jan 30: Around 15 armed culprits attacked a raiding police party and got freed two proclaimed offenders from their custody in Adda Shehbaz Khan here late on Sunday night.

Reports said that a heavy contingent of Kotwali police, led by SHO Sajid Nazir, raided the outhouse of accused Shehbaz alias Jora Pehalwan and arrested two POs Yunas alias Yusi and Aslam alias Aslu, who were at the time under influence. They were wanted to police in several murder cases.

In the meanwhile, their armed accomplices, including Shehbaz alias Jora Pehalwan, Shahid alias Shahdu, Tahir alias Tahiru, Asghar Ali, Ramzan and Shehzad, attacked the policemen. The outlaws held constable Muhammad Arif hostage at gunpoint, snatched his official rifle and opened fire on the police vehicle. Later, they got freed the hand-cuffed POs from police custody and escaped in the darkness while resorting to aerial firing.

Police said that main accused Shehbaz alias Jora Pehalwan was the ring leader of the qabza group.

Kotwali police have registered a case.

Meanwhile, the Badiana police registered a case against some 16 armed men for thrashing badly patrol police constables and snatching their official riffles near Bagriyan-Phalora village about a week ago.

Police are going into the matter.
