KARACHI: Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced on Friday that the development work at the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone site will commence on Saturday (today).

Speaking at a press conference, he said that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari would inaugurate the project.

He said investors who established their business within this zone would be eligible for a 10-year tax exemption and they could import machinery for business purposes without any duty.

He emphasised that the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone held immense potential for generating employment opportunities for millions of youth.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister’s Special Assistant Qasim Naveed Qamar emphasised the significance of promoting investment opportunities in the country for economic development.

He explained that this is a China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project due to China’s recognition of this area as an ideal location for the relocation of neighbouring industries.

He mentioned that the Dhabeji zone is strategically located along a crucial geographical route and emphasised its significant role in the country’s economy. In its initial phase, the zone aims to create approximately 150,000 employment opportunities. In response to a question, Mr Memon assured that comprehensive security measures would be implemented to ensure the safety of the project.
