MQM criticized for opposing KBD

RAWALPINDI, Jan 29: Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Sher Afgan on Sunday blasted the MQM for opposing the construction of Kalabagh dam and accused it of working on a foreign agenda.

Speaking at a press conference here, the minister said both the MQM and India were opposing the military action in Balochistan. The MQM has been opposing the government on every issue, he noted.

He said Punjab would not support Sindh on any issue if it did not stand by the former on its policies on water resources. He also accused the opposition of adopting double standard on Kalabagh dam adding that many districts of NWFP and Sindh were in favour of building new water reservoirs including the Kalabagh dam.

He said the country would go barren if five dams were not built till 2020. “If we properly pool our water resources and make judicious use of them we will become a self-sufficient country.”
