ISLAMABAD, Feb 1: Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz left here on Thursday night for New York to attend the three-day World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting, official sources said.

The Finance Minister would participate in forum discussions with leading economic personalities the themes ranging from “leadership in fragile times” to “rethinking safety and security in business” to “redesigning the role of IMF/World Bank”, the sources added.

Shaukat Aziz would also have bilateral meetings with the Finance Minister of Germany, Hans Eichel, US Secretary of Commerce, Donald Evans, Director, World Trade Organization, Mike Moore, and others during his participation in the World Economic Forum.

Finance Minister’s participation in the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum would provide an important opportunity to project the economic agenda, and the progress made, to the international economic leaders of the world, the sources concluded.

The World Economic forum, based in Geneva, Switzerlandis one of the most prestigious economic forums in the world.

Usually, the Annual Meeting of World Economic Forum is held in Davos, Switzerland. However, this year as a mark of respect to the tragic events of September 11, the Forum is meeting in New York.—APP
