BAHAWALPUR: The Islamia University Bahawalpur’s finance and planning committee has approved budget recommendations of Rs12.9 billion for the next financial year 2023-24.
According to a press release issued on Wednesday, treasurer Prof Dr Abubakar presented the budget for the new financial year at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Athar Mahboob.
The construction and development of the university, promotion of research activities and scholarships for the employees and students have been specially focused in the budget.
An amount of Rs2.5bn has been allocated for development expenditure.
SHOOTOUT: The Lodhran city police claimed on Wednesday to have killed two suspected robbers in an ‘encounter’ while a constable suffered injuries and two of their accomplices managed to escape.
The PRO of the Lodhran DPO told
Dawn that a police patrol received a call that four robbers allegedly snatched a motorcycle from a man, looted a sum of Rs150,000 and fled towards Kawandi area.
He said a team chased them and on seeing the police, the suspects opened fire. During a ‘shootout’, two of the suspects, one of them identified as Shan, were killed, as many others managed their escape and constable Zahid Rasool suffered bullet injuries.
The injured policeman after first aid was shifted to the Lodhran DHQ hospital. The PRO claimed that the police recovered the snatched motorcycle along with two pistols, 9-MM rifle and 97 rounds from the suspects. Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
HOLIDAYS CANCELLED: The district administration has cancelled Eid holidays of over 1,000 sanitary workers of the Bahawalpur Waste Management Company.
At a meeting presided over by Deputy Commissioner Zaheer Anwar Jappa, BWMC CEO Naeem Akhtar said about 100 vehicles would be plying on the road for three days to collect sacrificial animals’ waste and offal.
He said so far about 100,000 plastic bags had been distributed free of cost among citizens for hides of the sacrificial animals.
In Lodhran, the district administration has granted permission to 143 seminaries out of a total 163 to collect hides.
