KARACHI: The Sindh government on Tuesday imposed a ban on collection of hides of sacrificial animals without prior approval of the authorities concerned.

A notification issued by the provincial home department stated that there would also be ban on the use of loudspeakers, erecting camps for collection of hides as well as display of licensed weapons.

Meanwhile, the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Fazl) has condemned the Sindh government for using “delaying tactics” in issuance of permission to charity organisations and madressahs for collection of hides on the occasion of Eidul Azha.

He demanded that the Karachi mayor and commissioner issue the required no-objection certificate to seminaries forthwith in accordance with the last year’s conditions; otherwise madressah administrations would collect hides without any NOC.

Tanners’ association calls on Rangers chief

A delegation of the Karachi Tanners’ Association called on Major General Azhar Waqas, the director general of Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, here at headquarters of the paramilitary force on Tuesday.

They discussed collection of hides on the occasion of Eidul Azha and the association assured the Rangers chief of implementation of the government’s code of conduct in this regard.

Maj Gen Waqas said that special monitoring would be ensured of places where hides were being collected and then supplied to tanneries.

“No one will be allowed to forcibly collect hides,” the Rangers chief said, adding: “Any group or party whose name is included in the Fourth Schedule [of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997] will not be allowed to collect hides.”
