PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Institute of Cardiology, the sole cardiac hospital in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has been granted the category one hospital status. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Care Commission (HCC) has designated PIC as the first official category one hospital, granting a regular licence at a formal ceremony.

The PIC received a full-fledged licence following a thorough evaluation of various hospitals in the province by the HCC.

PIC spokesperson Riffat Anjum told Dawn that the HCC took measures to streamline and licence the hospitals, assessing them against predetermined standards.

The Peshawar Institute of Cardiology was recognised for its adherence to the HCC’s specified standards in providing standardised treatment, patient care, emergency services, and patient safety, among other facilities.

During the inauguration ceremony, PIC director Dr Niamat Shah expressed his pride for this prestigious achievement. Dr. Shah emphasised that PIC was dedicated to providing quality treatment to patients from across Pakistan, particularly Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said PIC will continue to strive for excellence, aiming to become a source of pride for the province by earning more national and international honors.

It is worth mentioning here that PIC had earned the distinction of being Pakistan’s first government hospital to obtain ISO certification.
