ABBOTTABAD: The administration on Monday finalised a security plan for Eid holidays considering the possible influx of tourists in Galiyat, Thandiani, Naran, Kaghan and Shogran areas of Hazara division.

The development came during a high-level meeting chaired by Hazara commissioner Amir Sultan Tareen in the RPO office here.

The participants included police DIG (Hazara) Tahir Ayub Khan, deputy commissioners and district police officers of Abbottabad and Mansehra, the National Highway Authority’s general manager, Galiyat Development Authority and Kaghan Development Authority chiefs, Abbottabad SSP (traffic), Abbottabad and Balakot assistant commissioners, and Galiyat and Balakot SDPOs.

They discussed security and traffic arrangements for Eid days with visitors to Galiyat and Kaghan in focus.

The commissioner said tourists were expected to arrive in Hazara division during Eid holidays, so authorities should ensure their foolproof security and provision of facilities to them.

He said the police should take all necessary measures to maintain law and order in the region, especially in markets.

Mr Tareen said Rescue 1122 would remain on alert for quick and effective response to emergency situations.

He directed GDA, KDA and NHA officials to facilitate tourists in the region and said health, water and sanitation workers should serve them to the best of their abilities during Eid days.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Samlan won the Abbas Khan Memorial Squash Championship at the Jan Sher Khan Squash Complex here on Monday.

He defeated Mutaiab Khan 3-2 in the final.

The women’s title went to Rania Qazi, who posted a straight games victory against Rabia Khan 3-0.

Local government secretary Zaheerul Islam distributed prizes to the winners.

He said he was happy to see talented youth participate in the squash contest.

“With dedication and hard work, players can help Pakistan regain lost glory in the game of squash,” he said.

The secretary said the country didn’t lack squash talents and would produce champions like Jan Sher Khan, Jehangir Khan and Qamar Zaman.

Tournament director Dr Shakir said more than 80 players participated in the tournament.
