KARACHI: Police claimed to have arrested over two dozen persons for violating a ban under Section 144 of the criminal procedure code to prevent people from going to beaches in view of approaching cyclone.

South-SSP Syed Asad Raza said the police had taken into custody 25 persons as they allegedly violated the ban imposed by the Karachi commissioner.

He said that all restaurants situated at beach in Defence Phase-VIII would be closed to avoid any mishap.

The SSP said that Defence Housing Authority (DHA) had asked the restaurant owners to vacate the place and the police had asked them to comply with the authority’s directives.

“We are in a process of getting all restaurants located at the beach near Do Darya closed by Wednesday night,” said the SSP.
