GUJRAT: Two siblings drowned while swimming in the River Chenab near Phalia in Mandi Bahauddin district on Friday.

The victims, 13-year-old Ahmed Yar and 12-year-old Imran from Kala Shadian village, had gone to the river to cool off from the scorching heat.

The divers of Rescue 1122 recovered the bodies and handed them over to the grieving family members.

The Phalia assistant commissioner has announced a ban on swimming in rivers, canals and storm water drains in the tehsil under Section 144.

Additionally, land revenue department officials have been instructed to regularly broadcast announcements through loudspeaker in their respective areas to raise awareness about the ban on swimming.

MURDER: A man was shot dead and at least four others, including his three sons and a nephew, sustained bullet injuries by the firing of a close kin in village Warraichanwala of Dinga police precincts of Kharian tehsil on Friday.

Police said it had arrested the suspect and recovered the pistol used by him for firing.

Reports said that one Afzal opened fire at his brother-in-law (wife’s brother) Khalid Mahmood and shot him dead on the spot whereas his three sons Amanat (20), Zohaib (12) and Ahmed (16) and a nine-year-old nephew Ali Sher sustained bullet injuries.

All the injured were shifted to the Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital, Gujrat.

TAINTED MILK: The district food authority disposed of 3,400 litres of tainted milk in the Bhabhara Road area of Malakwal Tehsil in Mandi Bahauddin district on Friday.

According to a spokesperson for the food authority, the raid was conducted based on a tip-off about the processing of tainted milk using hazardous materials.
