SEWERAGE SYSTEM: Sewerage lines passing around the Jan Muhammad Road in Quetta have become a nuisance for the locals, especially for students who get late in reaching their institutions. Besides, the foul smell in the area is getting more and more unbearable as the days pass by. Recent rains have added to the mess further as the roads now look like a river; a river of stink and smell. The authorities concerned must resolve the matter.

PLAN B: The traffic logjams on University Road have become a grave concern for one and all, especially for those who have to pass through the area as part of their daily commute. They have to suffer twice a day, if not more, every day. Travelling from, say, Safoora Goth to Merewether Tower has become a nightmare. The Red Line bus project may take years to complete, and there should be an alternative arrangement to manage this issue. Another bus service may ease the problem in the interim period. Area residents should be able to abandon using their own transportation, and use the bus service instead. There has to be an alternative arrangement in place.

NO GAS: The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) seems to be unaware of the fact that many areas of the city have not been getting regular supply of natural gas for months. There is complete silence on the issue, and no complaint is good enough for the SSGC to even respond to. The organisation and its management seem to be in a state of blissful hibernation. Would SSGC ever wake up?

MANAGING WASTE: With Karachi producing about 16,000 tonnes of garbage daily, the city needs a proper waste-management system. Land mafias use garbage-dumping tactics when they intend to grab a particular land. The authorities concerned should pay heed to the pleas of the people in this regard.
