KARACHI, Jan 25: The women wing of the Pakistan Peoples Party on Wednesday slammed the government for approaching the Interpol to issue arrest warrants for former Prime Minister Ms Benazir Bhutto and Senator Asif Ali Zardari. Terming the government’s action as treacherous, the information secretary of the women wing Sindh chapter, MPA Shazia Marri, said the regime was allegedly bent upon undermining Pakistan’s independence and autonomy, terming the act as yet another nail in the coffin of Pakistan’s sovereignty.

The government was becoming more and more threatened by the undeniable power of the Pakistan People’s Party and the public’s unshakeable belief in its leader.

It was, therefore, employing despicable tactics to persecute our leadership. However, people will not be swayed by such obviously contemptible schemes, and the government’s desperation was apparent in its disgraceful action, Marri said.

Marri said the regime reached unprecedented lows everyday as it dedicated all government machinery to persecute Ms Bhutto.

This fanatical operation against one woman, leading to continuous subversion of her rights shows the reality behind the regime’s façade of moderation, she said.
