SAHIWAL: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has arrested a militant associated with a banned outfit who was planning a terrorist attack on Sahiwal-Pakpattan Road.

The CTD confirmed that the arrested man, identified as Muhammad Afzal and hailing from Yousafkhel, was affiliated with banned organisation Al-Ahraar.

During the operation, the CTD seized a hand grenade, an electric detonator, an electric button, a double charger, and Rs8,550 from the suspect. Furthermore, the police also discovered explosive material and an improvised device used for the planned blast.

The CTD arrested the man under sections 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substance Act (amended) 2017, as well as section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

He was shifted to an undisclosed location for further investigation.
