PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Monday transferred the director general of information and public relations department and assigned the charge to the department’s additional secretary.

A notification issued here said Fazal Hussain (BS-19), had been transferred and posted additional secretary elementary and secondary education department against the vacant post.

It said Basar Ali (BS-18), additional secretary information department, had been authorised to hold additional charge of the post of DG till further orders.

Mr Hussain was posted DG information on April 28. However, directorate of information and public relations employees had started a pen-down strike against the posting, demanding its cancellation and appointment of a senior officer from the directorate on the position.

The employees had on May 18 announced to end their strike after talks with information minister Barrister Feroze Jamal Shah Kakakhel.

Meanwhile, in a statement, Information Welfare Association’s president Mr Attaullah termed the transfer of Mr Hussain as a ‘victory’ of the body’s ‘principled’ stand.

He claimed the provincial government would appoint a senior officer from the directorate as DG. He said information directorate offices had opened and public relations officers had resumed their duties from Monday.
