PESHAWAR: Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Musarrat Hilali paid a surprise visit to Bara sub-jail of Khyber tribal district on Monday.

A statement issued here said that the PHC chief justice inspected every barrack of the jail and gave a patient hearing to all the prisoners individually. Majority of the complaints were received regarding non-appearance of counsels and prosecution witnesses in the cases before the court. She issued directions for resolution of the issue.

The sub-jail consists of only three barracks without having basic facilities for the huge number of inmates. The overcrowded jail has no open area and an inadequate ventilation system.

The statement said that it was causing spread of communicable diseases among inmates besides creating psychological problems to them.
